Smoke Free City
Implementation guidelines
A smoke free environment is a physical environment with no exposure to tobacco smoke. This applies to all public buildings, indoor spaces, or open spaces where there are gatherings or events. It includes shopping, entertainment, sports, business and education premises, bus stations, train stations and local authority workplaces.
Smoke Free City Brochure 2014
This brochure is an updated version of the “Smoke Free City” brochure prepared and published by the Healthy Cities Network in May 2006. The update was initiated by “Healthy Cities Network” in light of changes in the country in recent years, regarding both laws and regulations and availability of smoking cessation options. The initiative was taken on the basis of a joint decision by representatives of all its members to deepen activities in the field to make cities smoke-free and in recognition of the responsibility of the local authority to enforce regulations restricting smoking in public places. This brochure addresses decision makers in local authorities and in any other organizational framework – workplaces, educational institutions and recreation sites. The brochure serves as a tool for realizing the vision of a “smoke-free city”. You will find guidelines for formulating and implementing urban policies, examples illustrating the possibility of its implementation as well as information on helping factors. According to this outline, a “smoke-free enterprise” or any other organizational framework can be implemented to match relevant populations and content.
