Healthy nutrition in the garden – promoting healthy nutrition in community gardens
A guide for community garden coordinators, volunteers, nutritionists, educators, and visitors on creating a discourse about nutrition and healthy living. The guide includes ideas for activities and gatherings that provide knowledge and skills on Mediterranean cooking, healthy consumption, smart nutrition, sustainability, food labelling, and adopting healthy eating habits. The guide also includes an explanation on the connection between food and healthy nutrition, provided by the Ministry of Health.
Promoting nutritional recommendations can help in the primary prevention of obesity and morbidity and even in secondary prevention. Community gardens can serve as fertile and natural ground for it. Exposure to a variety of garden produce and incorporating it into home cooking increases the likelihood of diverse eating and the adoption of healthy eating habits.
